Preserving Nature to Conserve and Enhance the Territory

ALWAYS, NATURE FOLLOWS A CYCLIC RHYTHM; A BEAT THAT WE PERCEIVE IN THE CHANGING OF SEASONS AND IN THE CONTINUOUS PULSE OF THE EARTH. EVERY HUMAN INTERVENTION ON THE LAND MUST TAKE INTO ACCOUNT A SACRED AND UNCHANGING BALANCE. THE AGRICULTURAL WORLD, STILL BOUND TO THE SEASONS' RHYTHMS MORE THAN OUR CITIES, HANDS DOWN A SIMPLE LESSON: PRESERVING THE ENVIRONMENT MEANS, ABOVE ALL, RESPECTING THE LAND, BECAUSE IT NOURISHES ITSELF FROM EVERYTHING THAT SURROUNDS IT.

The Biodiversity of the Bolgheri Territory: Coastal Plains, Pristine Forests, and the Wildlife Refuge "Padule di Bolgheri"

THE BOLGHERI TERRITORY, HOME TO TENUTA SAN GUIDO, IS A TRUE NATURAL GEM, AN HARMONIOUS BLEND OF FERTILE LANDS, ANCIENT FORESTS, AND UNTOUCHED COASTAL LANDSCAPES. THIS PARTICULAR ECOSYSTEM REPRESENTS AN IDEAL HABITAT FOR EXTRAORDINARY BIODIVERSITY, BOTH FROM A BOTANICAL AND WINEMAKING PERSPECTIVE.

The coastal plains, with their sandy soil, offer an ideal terroir for the cultivation of high-quality grape varieties; the hills, covered with forests of oak, holm oak, and maritime pine, are rich in shrubs, herbs, and endemic plants that enhance the region's botanical biodiversity; the wetlands within the Estate are home to a wide variety of aquatic plants, such as reeds, yellow irises, and water lilies.

Another fascinating aspect of the Bolgheri territory is the presence of the Wildlife Refuge "Padule di Bolgheri". In 1959, Mario Incisa della Rocchetta decided to transform a part of the family estate - about 80 hectares of freshwater marsh surrounded by 440 hectares of forest, wet meadows, fallow land, pastures, and cultivated fields - into the first private Italian wildlife refuge. A protected area that provides shelter for numerous animal species and ensures the preservation of delicate ecosystems. Here, it is possible to spot species such as roe deer, wild boar, and countless migratory birds that rest in these lands.

The Ecosystem of Tenuta San Guido

A RESPECTFUL DIALOGUE BETWEEN HUMANS AND NATURE

The area surrounding Tenuta San Guido is a true natural treasure, an incredibly rich territory that extends from the sea to the hills, offering a unique spectacle in terms of biodiversity, morphological characteristics, and floral richness. The region's Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild winters and hot summers, enjoys moderate temperatures, complemented by a constant sea breeze. It's a unique ecosystem that humanity has recognized, appreciated, and respected: the territory around Tenuta San Guido has survived decades during which Italy has undergone significant changes.

This corner of Maremma seems to have stopped in time, far from the frenetic urban developments of the post-war boom era, the pursuit of mass tourism, and intensive cultivation. Human presence has been discreet and gentle, thanks in part to a combination of prudent choices and forward-thinking efforts by institutions, businesses, and landowners. Tenuta San Guido has adopted sustainable policies and practices to preserve the environment, favoring low-impact soil management techniques.

The Commitment of Tenuta San Guido: Preserving and Enhancing Its Territory

TENUTA SAN GUIDO, WITH ITS DEEP ATTACHMENT TO THE LAND AND THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT, IS COMMITTED WITH DETERMINATION TO SUSTAINABLE TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND THOSE WHO INHABIT IT.

This effort is not limited to the production of exceptional wines but extends to the preservation of the ecosystem and the well-being of the local community.

Tenuta San Guido has worked tirelessly to protect the surrounding territory, adopting innovative and sustainable measures to preserve the natural environment. Mario Incisa Della Rocchetta, the "inventor" of Sassicaia, was among the first to recognize the uniqueness of this ecosystem and understand how to preserve its biodiversity. As one of the founders of WWF Italy in 1966, Incisa della Rocchetta, who served as its first president, helped raise public awareness and influence institutions regarding the ecological value of the "Padule di Bolgheri".

Even today, Tenuta San Guido practices environmentally friendly agricultural methods and promotes sustainable cultivation techniques: a guardian of the territory committed to preserving and enhancing nature for present and future generations. Because "the land is alive," sensitive and ready to repay us in kind: the more we love it, the more love it will give us in return.

A WORK IS ALWAYS AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL, AND CARRIES WITH IT THE MEMORIES, HOPES, AND FEARS NOT ONLY OF ITS AUTHOR, BUT OF THE WORLD THAT INHABITS IT.
