Tenuta San Guido and the Institute for Sustainable Protection of Plants of the National Research Council (IPSP-CNR) announce the launch of an innovative research project aimed at defending and preserving the trees along the monumental Viale dei Cipressi in Bolgheri. The project, lasting five years (2025-2029), includes a detailed programme of phytosanitary monitoring, specialist training, assistance with the sanitary reclamation of the cypress trees, and the reintegration of the trees with native clones selected for their resistance to cortical canker.

The Viale dei Cipressi in Bolgheri represents a natural and landscape heritage of inestimable value. With this initiative, Tenuta San Guido and IPSP-CNR are joining forces to ensure the protection and enhancement of this green monument, promoting targeted actions based on rigorous scientific studies. “We are proud to launch this collaboration with such an esteemed institution as the CNR,” stated Alessandro Berlingieri, President of Tenuta San Guido. “Protecting the Viale dei Cipressi is a priority for us, and we believe this initiative will ensure the conservation of this heritage for future generations.” The CNR also expressed great satisfaction with the commencement of the project. “Our goal is to provide expertise and scientific tools to combat the diseases threatening the cypress trees, with particular focus on cortical canker,” said Dr Roberto Danti, researcher at IPSP-CNR. “This project represents a crucial step for the protection of the Viale dei Cipressi and the promotion of sustainable strategies in the management of monumental greenery.

Businesses are called upon to be protagonists of positive change for the environment and society,” added Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta, External Relations of Tenuta San Guido. “Being rooted in a territory also means taking care of it, contributing to its protection and enhancement. These are values our family has always believed in, as my father Nicolò and my grandfather Mario Incisa della Rocchetta did, the latter being the founder of the estate, who in 1959 established the Bolgheri Wildlife Refuge, a pioneering model of environmental conservation.” Following this same spirit, Tenuta San Guido finances, promotes, and supports a project that not only preserves a symbolic landscape of Tuscany worldwide but also represents a concrete example of corporate environmental responsibility. Among the various activities, the project includes systematic monitoring of the health of the trees, training of specialised operators for phytosanitary management, and the replacement of compromised plants with new saplings obtained from selected clones. A practical and innovative action to combat the diseases threatening this extraordinary arboreal collection.
